Kissed Man

Getting towered by the sea
Eating helplessly    Starting
to cry with ivory meaning-
fully crying putting up
with the day and night
Eating food out of cans
waiting for 2nd kiss
eating day and night
Thinking Saying doing
with flooded flower
Cabin fever through
the day and Dreaming
through the night
to die in the dark with
night   at risk   No under-
standing of speech or
heat is a kissed man

_______________
In April, KC found this poem of Vaughn’s on a piece of notebook paper tucked into a copy of Sleeping on the Wing that was lost under her passenger seat since December.

Go so no

Go so no rhyme
and that is that
said the cat
in the hat at
the pizza parlor
while he was waiting
for his food.

When I play with my brother

When I play with my brother
we ride on ponies and go on adventures
to save the kingdom
and go to Texas on a horse
and we play Backyardigans
we mostly play house games
and three musketeers

Blackness Fire

Thunder, thunder, lightning fist!
Pound through clouds and strike through mist.
Straighten tiger from the rain,
Roar through night and maul through pain.

A collaborative poem: the first and third lines, as well as the title, are Vaughn's; the second and fourth lines are her dad's.

Purple Coins

Purple coins grow in the forest
and you can wash them off
and have them
if you live in the forest.

Millie Bear's Place

Home on the ocean
where Millie Bear lives,
fish under the water,
birds in the sky.

*

On a cloudy day with a blue sky and not much sun the children go out to play in the rain that falls gently on the green, green grass.

*

Raspberry Bear sailing on a boat on a rainy day, eating sandwiches and cookies with Disco Bear and Ballerina Bear. They sailed out to catch some fish from Millie Bear's place, and they caught some. They got a Yellow Fins, a Red Fins, and an Orange Fins. And don't forget the Blue Fins!

*

A gull landed on the boat
and Raspberry Bear said "Hello"
and the gull said "Hello" back.

Honey Golden as the Sun

Sweet & honey golden as the sun—
know what fun it is to ride
on a one-horse open sleigh.

*

Did you know that cows
moo like the sun?
Did you know that horses
neigh like the moon?
Did you know that bunny rabbits
hop like woodcutters?

*

Mommy's car is white
like the deodorant
of crayons,
and we're waiting for her
to come home in it.

*

Do you know that honey is golden as the sun?
And do you like honey golden as the sun?
Yes, I do like honey golden as the sun.
So let's write and write and write
until honey golden as the sun comes home.

Blue Sky Poem

Vaughn writes on the blue sky
and the blue sky writes
on daddy
and the blue sky writes on Vaughn.

Peppers

1.
Peppers are red and green.
Sometimes they're purple
and orange.

Peppers are a gallop of green.

2.
Pickled peppers
in a bottle of rain.

Carrots

My carrots are orange
in the fridge
my carrots I love
to eat them
they are sweet
crunchy
like a boat in my mouth

Memorial Day Weekend

a collaboration with mom and dad

New Milford sunlight, Bank Street laughter
eating ice cream in the afternoon
grilled-cheese-eating morning in the noon
pushing stroller, crunching cone
the slowness of summer
and it's hot as Egypt in my ear
